The Ventura Film Festival was established in 2004 and has displayed hundreds of movies, commonly surpassing 200 films each summer, and has drawn recognition from the global cinema community. From its beginning, the festival has transformed into a prominent cultural occasion that brings together cinematic professionals, conservation enthusiasts, and participants from throughout the world.

Memorable occasions have featured presenting celebrated filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the pioneering world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend along with Ian Cairns, four-time world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/mixed martial arts fighter combat sports star Fabio Leopoldo, and the half-century commemoration of West Side Story, which comprised receiving the complete Oscar-winning ensemble of West Side Story, website including Oscar recipient/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris as well as Golden Globe winner/Oscar-nominated Russ Tamblyn. The founder and executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was privileged to participate, along with many of Hollywood's top stars, in the 50th Anniversary tribute of West Side Story and Hollywood's footprint/handprint ceremony for Academy Award recipients Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, together with Golden Globe champion Russ Tamblyn at the iconic Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This ceremony also acted as the official BluRay debut by Fox and MGM of the iconic West Side Story, which is widely considered by critics and fans to be the best musical of all time. This prestigious recognition and participation exemplifies the festival's important standing and valued role within the cinema world.
